The maritime and polytechnical training center MARTEC in Frederikshavn has recently initiated a specially designed HD crane, which will provide students and learners with completely new opportunities to improve their skills in the offshore sector.

On 28 June, MARTEC officially initiated their new crane: a SENNEBOGEN 630 supplied by UN Mobilkraner.

The SENNEBOGEN crane is the training center's third stationary crane, but the first crane for decisive offshore use. And the first of this caliber. In addition to the beam length of 32 meters and 28 tonnes special weight, the cabin is larger than normal on these types of cranes and accommodates two people - a student and an instructor.

With this new crane, MARTEC hopes that they soon will be able to offer certification courses to the offshore industry, with high demand for ship assistants, which can serve both land-based and offshore cranes.

Complies with international standards

MARTEC offers all maritime education in Denmark - from basic education to advanced polytechnical and nautical education - as well as a wide range of certification courses within, among other things, the offshore and the wind energy sector.

"The special thing about this new crane is that it has had to meet a number of very specific requirements because our education, especially in offshore, is certified by OPITO," says Børge Nielsen, Technical Manager at MARTEC.

OPITO is an international organization for the standardization of skills and competencies in the oil and gas industry. In order to become a certified course provider, the equipment used in training and teaching must also meet the requirements set by OPITO. Therefore, it has been necessary to get the new crane custom-made.

custom-made super crane

MARTEC's new offshore crane is developed and purchased through UN Mobile Cranes and manufactured at the SENNEBOGEN factory in Germany.

"It has been a challenging and incredibly exciting task for us because there has been some very specific requirements to be fulfilled. We are very pleased with the final result, which truly is a completely unique solution - and which will certainly provide the optimal conditions for MARTEC students and learners, "says Jørgen Andersen, sales manager of UN Mobilkraner.

Although the fulfillment of the strict OPITO standards has meant that the crane has both become larger than intended and exceeded the original budget, MARTEC is also excited about the latest expansion of the crane fleet:

"We have spoken to several potential suppliers, but it was UN Mobilkraner, who found the right solution. It has been a long process, but we are very pleased with the result that has been worth waiting for. And we are looking forward to offering our students training in a very high quality offshore crane, "says Børge Nielsen.

The new crane is purchased with support from the Kattegat Silo Foundation and the Danish Maritime Fund. A support which, according to Børge Nielsen, has allowed the purchase of a crane of this caliber.
